Hi everyone! I'm looking forward to working with you this semester. In our general correspondence and during class, please call me Ms. Liz.
To give you some brief background info. about me, I've lived in FL my whole life and received my BA at the U. of South Florida in Humanities and Classical Studies. I have always enjoyed subject area work in art history, mythology, and a variety of topics spanning ancient history and the early modern era. I then completed my graduate MLS (fancy acronym for "Humanities") at Rollins College, where I added a number of popular culture, narratology, rhetoric, and other historical-culture topics to my academics.
I started as (and still am) a writing tutor while also teaching as an adjunct instructor here and at another local state college. My job this semester is to help you further hone your English composition skills in terms of reading, writing, organization, argumentation, and critical thinking. We have a lot of ground to cover, but--as long as you stay engaged--I have no doubt you will improve your skills along the way.
Ultimately, writing is a process, and it isn't always easy or fun. BUT, the more you learn, develop, and practice your writing skills and ways of thinking, the more confident you will feel in your writing abilities!
Travel planning is a fun way to escape and imagine where my husband and I may travel next. We've been to Colorado, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, Scotland, England, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland together already. We're crossing our fingers for Iceland, Norway, Italy, and Greece in the near future!
In no particular order: DARK, Vikings: Valhalla, The Witcher, The Office, Peaky Blinders, Game of Thrones (up to S07), The Last Kingdom, Doctor Who (2005 -), The House of the Dragon, The Rings of Power, and Sandman.
Lord of the Rings, nearly anything in the MCU, John Wick, The Matrix, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, My Neighbor Totoro, the Blade Runners, Harry Potter, and more.
Puscifer, Kaleo, Chris Stapleton, Bob Seger, Thrice, In This Moment, movie soundtracks in general for films/TV series like Lord of the Rings, Robin Hood (2010), Pride and Prejudice (2005), Game of Thrones, etc. And, of course, so much more!
Baking, fiber arts, hiking, drawing with charcoal, fiction writing, puzzles, hunting for megaliths on https://www.megalithic.co.uk/
Ravenclaw. House Stark. David Tennant is my favorite Doctor, but Eccleston & Smith are tied for a close second. As a magical creature, I would want to be an elf, but I would probably more closely resemble the owl from Clash of the Titans '81.
If you're still here, thank you for taking the time to learn a bit more about me. Whether we've had classes together before or not, I definitely look forward to working with you more this semester! I sincerely hope you enjoy this class!
